The book Portuguese Criminal Law Collection, co-edited by Paulo Pinto de Albuquerque and José Branco, will be made available in open access. The work was published in two volumes by UCE in Lisbon, with Volume I released in 2010 (902 pages) and Volume II in 2011 (780 pages).

The project originated within a group of legal professionals connected to both judicial practice and academia, bringing together contributions from magistrates and legal scholars. It results in a comprehensive compilation of so-called “extravagant” criminal legislation, including provisions whose current validity may be uncertain.

The structure of the book follows the constitutional order of protected legal interests, covering areas such as fundamental rights, political participation, workers’ rights, economic and social rights, and cultural rights. This organization reflects a systematic approach aligned with the framework of the Portuguese Constitution.

Each provision is accompanied by detailed commentary following a consistent analytical model, addressing sources of law, protected legal interests, objective and subjective elements of offences, grounds for justification and exclusion of liability, attempt, participation, concurrence of offences, and penalties.

Designed as a practical and structured reference tool, the book also includes summaries for each annotated provision, facilitating consultation and navigation for legal practitioners and researchers.
