Judge at the European Court of Human Rights

Election by an absolute majority (on the first ballot) of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe on 25 January 2011. Sworn in on 1 April 2011. Mandate expired on 31 March 2020. However, Judge Albuquerque continued to perform his duties in some pending cases in which he was part of the judicial panel until 25 May 2021, the date on which he delivered his last ruling in the Big Brother Watch v. United Kingdom case.
